Today I want to talk about MASCARA! They say the eyes are the window to the soul and we ALL want our windows to pop and that just can't happen without lashes that stand out. This post is solely about mascara - I am not going to delve into eyelash extensions or glue on strips.
We've all seen the commercials for mascara and think to ourselves, "no way, she is totally wearing lashes!" Sometimes if you read the fine print on the bottom of the TV it'll say something along the lines of 'lashes added for dramatization,' which is false advertising and no bueno! (that is 1 of the 5 Spanish words I know!) I decided to really test out popular mascaras after watching some beauty videos and see how they worked for me.
My eyelashes are average I would say. They're not too short, not too long, not too thin or thick. They are basic! I like my mascara to lengthen and thicken without getting clumpy which is probably what everyone is after.
1. Rimmel Scandaleyes Retro Glam - surprisingly good quality, lasts a long time and makes your lashes thick. The brush is a different shape but it has a lot of bristles which worked great on my lashes. It does not lengthen very much so I like using this on top of a something else. Basically it's the cherry you want to put onto of your ice cream sunday.
2. Covergirl Peacock Flare - very pretty tube, the top has neoprene (i think) which makes the twist off very easy. The brush seems to be silicone which did not work well for me. If you have naturally long and thick lashes I think you would like the peacock flare. The formula seems normal, nothing special.
3. Maybelline Lash Sensation - I tried sooo hard to LOVE this because it works so well on one of the beauty bloggers I follow. I gave it extra chances but...the bristles are silicone. I love the pink tube, the formula is very nice! It goes on smoothly, sticks to your lashes quick and it has a 'brand new' scent to it. I wish the bristles were normal because it would probably be the perfect mascara. It didn't do much but again, if you have naturally long and thick lashes it would work well for you like the beauty blogger I mentioned. I want to to try this formula with another brush and see how I like it, to be continued, this is not the end of lash sensation and I.
4. Loreal Voluminous Superstar XFiber - Love Love Love Loreal makeup so I was super excited about this one. It's a pretty purple tube with silver accents. The left side has a number 1, right side number 2 indicating the steps. Step 1 is the mascara, thin brush unlike many of loreals mascaras. Step 2 is a thicker, traditional loreal brush with the fibers and more mascara. You can see the fibers on the brush but it's not an overwhelming amount. Overall this worked well, you do need to take a little extra time for the coats to dry if you like your lashes thicker/longer. I don't love it but I don't hate it... my famous line.
I still don't have a holy grail mascara so the hunt continues. My go-to is Loreal Voluminous but lately I've been wanting something different. Please comment below with any recommendations and your mascara reviews!
